Never Again Is Now

I am honored to moderate a very special event at the Wende Museum: Never Again Is Now.

It all began when Biggi Schilcher from the Goethe International Charter School told me about the remarkable children’s book Ich war Eva Diamant and its author and illustrator, Stephanie Lunkewitz. Biggi wanted to organize an event for the parents, and I was immediately intrigued.

On the same evening, I was attending a program at the Thomas Mann Haus in the Pacific Palisades, and I asked the organizers if they knew Stephanie Lunkewitz and her work. To my surprise, Stephanie was there! That’s how we met, and shortly afterward she invited me to moderate an evening with her and Holocaust survivor Mary Bauer.

The theme of the evening, Never Again Is Now, felt urgent and meaningful. Through Stephanie’s beautiful illustrations of Eva Szepesi’s story and Mary’s firsthand testimony, this event brings history to life and reminds us why memory, empathy, and action are so important today.

Join us at the Wende Museum in Culver City on 2/25/26 for this powerful evening of stories, reflection, and remembrance.
